Dr. Robert Strang

Dr. Robert Strang, Chief Public Health Officer for Nova Scotia, welcomes attendees to this workshop.

In late May 2016, CAREX Canada gathered stakeholders working on radon gas in Nova Scotia to discuss exposures in the region and what is being done to reduce them.

CAREX Canada’s risk estimates for indoor air carcinogens show that radon gas is the highest priority exposure in Canadian environmental settings. This known carcinogen was identified as a priority exposure in Nova Scotia at a meeting held with local stakeholders in 2013.

The workshop agenda focused on a broad range of exposure topics, including federal radon regulations and guidelines, results from cross-Canada and provincial radon testing programs, mapping radon in Nova Scotia, and workplace exposures. Attendees also discussed home inspections and real estate transactions, professional training programs, and education and outreach strategies. The workshop offered a valuable opportunity for attendees to connect with others interested in radon across multiple jurisdictions and discuss the strategies for reducing exposures in Nova Scotia.

The workshop was hosted by CAREX Canada in partnership with:
