Degreaser trichloroethylene upgraded to a known carcinogen
In the December issue of the Lancet Oncology, the results of the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) meeting of experts in October 2012 were released, indicating that there is sufficient evidence in human studies to upgrade degreasing agent trichloroethylene to a known carcinogen.
CAREX Canada has estimated occupational exposures to trichloroethylene (TCE) in Canadian workplaces; this information, and a detailed profile about the carcinogen itself including its various health effects, can be found here. Below is a summary of who's exposed and how:
The CAREX Canada Occupational Exposures team is currently reviewing exposure measurement data for TCE and will have estimates for levels of exposure available in the new year.
